To get growth in our company, we have to understand the uncertainties, embrace it, and go for higher risk, higher return projects. Without those higher return projects, we’ll actually not create these bigger opportunities for the companies. So getting that in place is crucial for success and growth in our company.
To evaluate projects, we go through a series of workshops, taking the great ideas that people bring us, and we create formulation workshops, bringing the relevant people who are part of these projects into one room—a facilitated workshop where at the end of the stage, we get a strategy table.
From the strategy table, we create an NPV with sensitivities—a tornado chart. And from there, we can create a learning plan and a focus on the areas where we have the highest risk and the highest return opportunities as part of our portfolio.
Actually, over the last 10 years, HP has used the facilitation and leadership of SmartOrg multiple times. And it has helped us both explore the opportunities that we have, create the strategic tables, and create a learning plan—understanding the risks better and how to implement and go to market in a more efficient way within our business units and also with our partners.
